Motivating the community to experience the world through scientific exploration.
WELCOME
Welcome to Atlas Science Center (ASC). ASC is a place that promotes informal, life-long learning and creates environments where science, technology, engineering and math flourish. Atlas Science Center celebrates diversity in language, lifestyle and learning styles. We believe that a key to a healthy and productive life is education that is tailored to and driven by the individual, with components chosen to influence future career choices, hobbies and interests.
SCIENTIFIC EXPLORATION is at the core of our education programs, outreach activities and exhibits. With a focus on students grades 3 through 12, we offer scientific EXPERIENCES through our STEAM Discovery Hub, workshops and Live! Science stage presentations. Our reach extends beyond the Fox Cities to encompass rural and urban areas of Northeast Wisconsin.
We offer experiences that MOTIVATE our guests to seek additional learning opportunities, leading to a life-long love of DISCOVERY. We make certain that students are not discouraged from whatever they want to be, but are encouraged, inspired and challenged to reach their fullest potential.
One of our main objectives is to shift the mentality of our students and guests from “I could never do that” to “I think I can try that.” ASC staff supports the power of changing this mindset.
2021 ANNUAL REPORT
Our Mission.
Motivating the community to experience the world through scientific exploration.
Our Vision:
To be the destination for life-long learning and discovery.
Our Past Shapes Our Future
In 2005, the Paper Discovery Center (PDC) opened in the historic Atlas Paper Mill, as the educational arm of the Paper Industry International Hall of Fame. The goal of both institutions was to honor the long history of paper making in the Fox Cities and beyond. We purposefully chose the name Atlas as a link to our past, building upon the scientific and technological legacy of the paper industry.
Toward the Future
The new name is just the beginning! New exhibits will complement the science stage on the main level of Atlas Science Center. Outside, development of neighboring areas will bring walking trails, a new park and added green space, linking the Atlas Mill to downtown Appleton. Our Outdoor Learning Center and shoreline access will be incorporated into new learning opportunities.
